1. When is the best time to visit Italy from Canada?

Most of our Canadian travellers visit between May and October, and the sweet spots tend to be late spring and early autumn. May, June, September and early October give you warm weather, long daylight hours, and noticeably fewer visitors at major sites.

That said, summer has its own appeal. July and August are hotter and busier, but they’re also when Italian towns come alive with outdoor festivals, late-evening passeggiata, and the kind of golden light that makes everything look like a painting.

2. Do Canadian passport holders need a visa for Italy?

Canadian citizens can visit Italy for up to 90 days without a visa, which comfortably covers all of our tour packages. The main thing to check is your passport – it needs to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure date from Europe, so it’s worth double-checking the expiry before you book your flights.

3. Is Italy a good destination for a self-drive trip?

Italy is excellent for self-driving – the autostradas are well-maintained and connect the major cities efficiently, while the slower rural roads through Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna are some of the most rewarding drives in Europe. You drive on the right side of the road, and most signage is intuitive once you’re used to it.

The one thing that catches people off guard is the ZTL zones – restricted traffic areas in historic city centres. We mark these clearly on your route map, along with parking recommendations, so you’ll know exactly when to leave the car and explore on foot.

4. Can I customise my Italy package tour?

Absolutely – that’s one of the things our travellers appreciate most. After you book, your dedicated travel consultant will get in touch to talk through the options. Want an extra night in Florence to see more of the city? Or maybe you’d like to weave in a wine tasting in Tuscany, a cooking class, or a private airport transfer?

These are all available as add-ons, and your consultant will know exactly what works well with your particular route and pace.

5. How do I book, and what deposit is required?

You can book any of our tours online, and a dedicated travel consultant will be in touch within 2 business days to start planning your trip. A deposit of 10–20% secures your booking, with the remaining balance due 30 days before travel.

If you choose to pay a 20% deposit, you’ll also receive cancellation protection as part of your booking, which gives many of our Canadian travellers extra peace of mind when booking months ahead.

6. Are my payments protected?

Every booking with us is covered by EU Package Travel regulations, which means your payments are 100% protected. It’s one of those details that might not sound exciting, but it matters – especially when you’re booking a trip from the other side of the Atlantic.

8. What should I pack for Italy?

Comfortable walking shoes are far and away the most important thing in your suitcase. Italian cities are built on cobblestones, and you’ll cover more ground on foot than you expect – especially in Rome, Florence and Venice.

For spring and autumn, layers are your best bet – mornings can be cool, and afternoons warm enough for shirtsleeves. In summer, pack light fabrics, sun protection, and something with sleeves for visiting churches (most require covered shoulders).

9. Can I book flights through Nordic Visitor?

We don’t include flights in our tour packages. This way, you’re free to plan the journey that works for you. You choose your airline, where you fly from, and flight times that suit you.

10. What kind of accommodation do you use?

Our local team selects every property based on comfort, location and character. We work with locally owned hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs that consistently earn strong ratings from travellers. Single, double and triple rooms are available across most packages.

One thing worth knowing if you’re travelling from Canada: European hotel rooms tend to be smaller than what you’re used to at home. It’s a cultural difference rather than a quality one – and it’s easier to accept when your room happens to have a view of a 15th-century piazza.
